Away

We had such a restful time in Savannah.  It was the first time we went somewhere by ourselves since Caleb was born.  It was so amazing to truly have my mama radar take a break and not to have to worry about the kids.  Thanks Mom and Dad! 

 We spent a day in Savannah and a day on Tybee Island where our bed and breakfast was.  I just loved the European feel of Savannah.  There were so many nooks and crannies to explore.  The cobblestone and brick streets, amazing amount of wrought iron and huge live oak trees added to such a quaint feel to the town.  

     

Getting such great time with my best friend was incredible.   We talked, walked, threw frisbee, and road bikes on the beach.  On tybee we climbed the lighthouse (thats one of the pictures below)  We went down on river street in Savannah and took a tour of the city.  We ate out a ton, which was fun.  No cooking and no cleaning up!  Plus we sat down without getting up for many many consecutive meals, something we never do at home.  If you have kids, you know what I mean.   We stayed at a great bed and breakfast almost on the beach.  Lots of fun.

  

 I found this cool little sun at a gift shop on the island and hung it in my window yesterday (which was my actual birthday, and I had a great day).  I love it! 

 We also stopped at Ikea on the way to and from Savannah!  We got a bunch of stuff.  I got these little set of drawers for my sewing room and Bob’s dad put them together for me.  We also got Alice a new dresser (the reason we stopped on the way back).  Caleb enjoyed helping me put the drawers together last night.  Now I’m thinking of making our current guest room into Alice’s room.  I’m wanting to use this flower fabric in some way.  Its fabric that I got from Bob’s Grandma’s cottage (her name is Florence).  I think it was a table cloth.  Well Alice’s middle name is Florence, after her great grandma, so that’s why I want to incorporate it.  We’ll see what I come up with.  Not sure if I want to paint the room or not yet.   Not many plans in place yet.  But it’d be nice to give Alice that room.

     

Curtain Weekend

I’ve been developing this long list in my mind of projects/crafts that I want to do.  But before I let myself do too many fun things, I’m making myself do some more boring practical stuff.  So thanks to Bob watching the kids, I spent this past Saturday morning making curtains for my sewing room. 

It is fun to create, even if it is just making curtains.  But this fabric was giving me fits!  I started sewing them on Friday afternoon on my new machine.  So I was shocked to find that the stitch length varying greatly (without me changing the stitch length).  So I quickly called the Pro-Sew shop where we bought the machine and wanted help.  He told me that whenever any machine has stitch length variance that the problem is most likely the needle. (Amy N., maybe that’s the problem with your machine?)  So I changed the needle, that didn’t help, and I called back, more than a little frustrated.  We just determined that it was the kind of fabric I was using.  Because when I switched to different fabric it didn’t have the problem. 

The best way I can describe this fabric is stretch-shear-paisley-blue-gauze.  Hey I got it for $1 a yard at wally so I’m not complaining.  Well I was complaining on Saturday though.  Ugh, I guess there was a reason it was 1 dollar a yard.  Anyway, enough complaining, they’re done!  Here’s some pictures.  They’re fun, and I really like them with the gold.  Man I’m going so much more bold with this room than I would in other parts of the house, but it makes it fun.  I love how they look when the light comes through the window, but you can’t really get that from the pictures.  So you’ll just have to stop by and see them, tho don’t look too closely at those aweful stitches!

Cute stuff for Alice

I’ve been wanting to make cute little girl clothes for Alice for a long time.  So when I went to walmart for my wall art project I picked up some fabric and patterns to make some things for her, all of it in the 1 or 2 dollar a yard section.  Can’t beat that.  Though the tan with wavy stripes is actually fabric I got at hancocks a little while back.  I’m not exactly sure which fabric will go with which outfit or dress.  But you get the idea.  I wanted to take these pictures so I remember what my plans are.  I’ve purchased fabric in the past and have forgotten what I was going to use it for and it ends up just a part of my stash.  Plus if I put it here, then I have to go ahead and sew it right?!  I washed and dried it all today, so I’m set to cut out the patterns sometime soon.  Can’t wait.

   

 

I’ve been wanting to get some pictures of Caleb playing policeman for Brad and Renee (my brother and sister-in-law).  So here ya go guys!  And as you can see, Alice was having a good time playing dress up too.  She really got into it and just loved wearing those hats!
